Meet Dr. Leanne Skehan

My Story

My passion for nutrition started just over 25 years ago when I was recovering from an eating disorder.  I used the restriction of food as a means of finding control in my life when the world around me felt out of control!  I found the road to recovery with the guidance of a nutrition professional, group therapy, psychotherapy, and most importantly with the love of my family!  I had some setbacks over the years, but the love of running helped me to look at food differently.  I knew I needed to adequately fuel my body in order to have the energy for long-distance running. As I have gotten older, I have become an even stronger athlete. Over the years I have run many races, primarily half-marathons, and have finished at the top of my age group.  On a side note, I tend to choose races based on the scenery so I can enjoy the landscape as I run.

I have been working in higher education for a little over 12 years, and it was always my goal when I started my career. Truth be told, I would love to be a professional student. I enjoy learning, researching, and solving problems.

I currently work full-time as a Clinical Faculty Member at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in their Master of Public Health Program.  I also serve as an adjunct faculty for Northeast College of Health Science and the University of New England.

I live in a small town in Texas, with my husband and our two four-legged "children", Gunner and Nelson. We both are originally from Maine and spend most of the summer there each year. Outside of work and school, I enjoy long-distance running, spin biking, traveling, reading, and spending time with family.
